Eligibility Requirements

Alcorn State University ( Mississippi ) student conducts field studies. Alcorn received a demonstration grant from EPP's Environmental Entrepreneurship Program.

Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) as identified by the Department of Education are eligible to apply for EEP grants. These include schools listed on the most recent 'United States Department of Education Accredited Post-Secondary Minority Institutions' list:

  • Historically Black Colleges and Universities;
  • Hispanic Serving Institutions;
  • Tribal Colleges and Universities; and
  • Alaska Native or Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions

Proposals are not accepted from non-profit organizations, foundations, auxiliary services or any other entity submitted on behalf of MSIs.

Proposals must engage students in research that is firmly grounded in 'environmental fields' directly related to NOAA's mission. The term 'environmental fields' is defined as those environmental, natural sciences (i.e., biology, earth sciences), physical and social sciences (i.e., economics, anthropology, geography, and history), engineering, professional and technical fields that are directly related to NOAA's mission which is: 'to understand and predict changes in the Earth's environment and conserve and manage coastal and marine resources to meet our Nation's economic, social, and environmental needs.'

This program is open to all U.S. citizens attending MSIs and partner institutions.
