Environmental Demonstration Projects

Proposals in this category: 1) identify NOAA-related environmental challenges; 2) identify innovative ways to address the challenges by engaging students in collaborative field-based learning experiences; and, 3) identify opportunities to train students using a compliment of entrepreneurial and technical skills that may lead to business development opportunities in their local communities.

Examples of NOAA's Environmental Challenges

They include, but not limited to:

  • Enhancing and restoring coastal and estuarine habitats
  • Preventing marine pollution
  • Reducing coastal hazards
  • Managing marine protected areas
  • Protecting coral reefs
  • Reducing the spread of invasive species
  • Restoring fisheries and fisheries habitat
  • Planning community waterfront revitalization
  • Improving the prediction of weather and climate phenomena
  • Employing remotely sensed data and information systems to support environmental monitoring prediction
